Military Service Recognition Book 46 737 Mo r ay S t , Wi nn i peg • 204 - 982 - 1717 The community of Rossburn is eternally grateful for the sacrifices made by our youth who fought for our country and community. In 1995, the Manitoba government chose a very unique and everlasting way to recognize and honour our fallen soldiers from World War II. These young people have been honoured by having a lake, an island, or a hill named after them. We had many young men and women go to fight for us and our country. But thirteen never came back. The four we, the community of Rossburn, want to recognize this year are: Oswald Armstrong – Armstrong Hill; Fred Bidochka – Bidochka Island; Michael Bidochka – Bidochka Lake; Henry Piasta – Piasta Lake. The Rural Municipality and the Town of Rossburn want to acknowledge the sacrifice made by these young men who were born and raised in this Community. This is a wonderful way to have their names remain forever within the province of Manitoba, our community as well as in our hearts. Oswald Armstrong Henry Piasta Michael Bidochka Fredrick Bidochka Community of Rossburn PAY S T R I B U T E Served with Winnipeg Grenadiers - Died 1941/12/22 and is buried in Hong Kong. Henry was the son of Henry & Olena Piasta (nee Fedyk). Served with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles – Died 1944/10/11 and is buried in Adegem Canadian War Cemetery, in Belgium. Michael was the son of Nick & Katherine Bidochka (nee Kozak). Served with #49 Squadron – Died 1945/02/03 and is buried in Durnbach War Cemetery, in Germany. Oswald was the son of Walter & Mabel Armstrong (nee Fisher). Served with Royal Canadian Artillery 2 Anti-Tank – Died 1944/07/20 and is buried in Bretteville-sur-Laize Canadian War Cemetery in France. Fredrick was the son of Nick & Katherine Bidochka (nee Kozak).
