47 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca CHUTE, Clifford A. “Cliff” WWII Cliff was born in 1923 in Dauphin, Manitoba. He joined the Army and served in the FGH Tank Corps in Europe during WWII. He recalls a time when his tank was hit, resulting in his being wounded and his friend severely injured. His friend died of his injuries a short while later. A few years ago, Cliff was in Ottawa watching the Remembrance Day Service and Mrs. Taylor, the Mother of the Year, was laying the Wreath. The friend who died in the tank attack was also called Taylor and he wondered if she might be his dead friend’s mother. Cliff was able to contact her through his local Legion and confirmed that she was indeed his friend’s mother. They were able to visit and Mrs. Taylor was very grateful to learn the details of her son’s last day on the field. Cliff has been a member of Dauphin Legion Branch 20 for more than sixty years. CLEMMENS, Hugh W. WWII Hugh was born in Kenora, Ontario in 1916 and he died in 1994. He served with the Royal Canadian Air Force in Canada during WWII. Hugh was a member of Kenora Legion Branch 12 for forty-seven years. CLOUGH, John R. PEACETIME John was born in Strathroy, Ontario in 1930 and enlisted in February 1949 with the Royal Canadian Engineers and the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was discharged in February 1970. John has been a member of Russell Legion Branch 159 for over forty years. CLINK, David L. WWII David was born in Barwick, Ontario in 1920. He served in the Army with the 4th Brigade, 2nd Division Infantry, Royal Canadian Corps of Signals. He was a radio operator trained in Morse code. David served in Kiska, Aleutian Islands, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany and England. David has been the Chaplain for Erikson Legion Branch 12 for over thirty-two years.
