He enlisted in June 1941 and was discharged in January 1946. He served as a Lance Bombardier with the 70th Battery, Light Anti-aircraft, 4th Division, in Canada, England, France, Belgium, and Germany. He was a member of Russell Legion Branch 159 for fortynine years before he died in 2007. CHIPPING, Glyn Leonard WWII Glyn enlisted in Winnipeg in June 1941 and was discharged there in April 1946. He served with the Winnipeg Grenadiers H. K. F. in Canada and Hong Kong where he became a POW. Private Chipping received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the 1939-45 Pacific Star. Glyn has been a member of Russell Legion Branch 159. CHRISTIE, Earl J. WWI & WWII Earl was born in Glenboro, Manitoba in 1895. He joined the 90th Battalion in Winnipeg on June 15, 1916 and was sent to England with the 226th Battalion. He went into aviation training and then Sergeant Christie went to Egypt, where he spent most of his war service as an instructor at the Aerial Fighting School, turning out three full-fledged pilots a month. He was promoted to Flight Lieutenant. Following his marriage to Ena McLean in 1919, Earl farmed until WWII when he was appointed chief administrative officer of the recruiting branch of the Royal Canadian Air Force, with the rank of Squadron Leader. He was stationed at Winnipeg, Regina, Calgary, AB and Moncton, NB. Earl died in Glenboro in 1948. His two sons, Robert and Bruce, were also in the Air Force, serving in World War II. They are also deceased. CHIPPING, R. D. WWII R. D. Chipping enlisted in Winnipeg in 1941 and was discharged there in 1946. He served in Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany with the 5th Field Regiment. Gunner Chipping received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the War Medal 1939-45, the France and Germany Star, and the Defence of Britain Medal. He has been a member of Russell Legion Branch 159.
