There are many families that sent four, five or even six sons. It would appear that the Wasyl & Annie Strank family of Rossburn, Manitoba stand first - they sent eight of their sons to the Armed Forces. Mr. and Mrs. Strank lived in the Village of Rossburn. Mr. Wasyl Strank came to Canada in 1903 from the Village of Banyliv, Ukraine. Mrs. Annie Strank (Pardinuk) came from the Village of Kadabeski, Ukraine. The Stranks married in Canada. Besides the eight sons in the Armed Forces, there were three daughters and three sons still at home. All eight brothers joined the Forces as Volunteers. Mrs. Strank had been selected as a Silver Cross Mother, but was unable to make the trip to Ottawa to place the wreath. Wasyl passed away in 1965 and his wife Annie in 1985.
