49 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca GEDDES, Clare E. WWII Clare was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1919. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served with 405 and 408 Squadrons in England at Bournemouth, Litonhouse, Eastmoor, York and Pickering. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the War Medal 1939-45. Clare has been a member of Pilot Mound Legion Branch 62 for sixty-three years. GIBSON, James B. WWI James was born in Arbroath, Scotland in 1894. He enlisted in the 8th Battalion on September 23, 1914 and served in Canada, England and France during World War I. After thirteen months in the trenches, Jim was wounded in June 1916, a fact that was reported in the Manitoba Free Press on June 12, 1916. James passed away in 1961. GLADUE, Alexander “Alex” WWII Alex was born in Floyd, Montana, USA in 1916. He joined the Army and served in England during World War II. Alex was a member of Red Deer Legion Branch 35 and passed away in 1983. GILROY, William Lewis WWII William was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1921 and he moved with his family to Minitonas, Manitoba when he was very young. He joined the Royal Canadian Army, Royal Winnipeg Rifles Division, and served as a Private in Europe where he was wounded. After his return to Canada, he was employed in Sherridon, Manitoba at the Sherritt Gordon Mines. He later moved to Flin Flon where he worked for the Hudson Bay Mining & Smelting Company. William and his wife, Bella, raised two sons and a daughter. William passed away in Victoria, British Columbia in 2006 and was a member of Manitoba’s Flin Flon Legion Branch 73 and Esquimalt Dockyard Legion Branch 172 in Victoria, British Columbia.
