The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 93 CROSS, Robert Alrid “Spike” WWII Robert was born in Arcolla, SK in 1900 and joined the armed services after the outbreak of hostilities in 1939. Spike served in England, Italy and Holland, and received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the Italy Star, the Defence Medal, the 1939-45 Star. He served 6 years overseas and was discharged in 1945. Spike passed away on May 28, 1969. CROWE, Bruce WWII Bruce was born in 1924 and joined the Army in the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion serving in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. He received the 1939-45 War Medal, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the France-Germany Star, and the Canadian Parachute Badge. DAHL, Alvin WWII Alvin was one of ten children born to Alex and Mary (Hallet) Dahl and went to school at Winton. He enlisted, as did his other four brothers, in the Air Force and served in Canada and overseas. At the end of the war, he came back to Canada and married Grace Davidson of Listowel, Ontario. Alvin became a travelling salesman for the Rogers Majestic Company and later for the Maytag Company. The couple had four children and lived in Belleville, Ontario. CUNNINGHAM, Merl WWII Merl was born in Yellow Creek and attended Hazel Lake School south of Yellow Creek. He joined the South Saskatchewan Regiment, serving in Canada, England and France. He was killed in action on August 14, 1944 at Clair Tizon and is buried at Brettville-sur-Laize Canadian War Cemetery in Calados, France.
