The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 81 CHOVIN, James W. WWII James was born in Asquith, SK in 1924. He joined the Royal Winnipeg Rifles in 1943 serving in Canada, England and France. He landed with the first assault wave on Juno Beach and was wounded in the taking of the Carpiquet Airfield. Following his discharge in 1946, he took up farming and raised a family in Saskatchewan. He has remained a Legion Member for the past 45 years, instilling a strong military tradition with his family and also appearing annually for the school children at their Remembrance Day Services for many years. CHRISTENSEN, Harold Henry WWII Harold was born in Pederstop, Lolland, Denmark, in 1904. He was a Corporal in the RCAF from 1941-1946, stationed in Moncton, NB, where he started out on guard duty. He then transferred to motor vehicles and took several General Motors Training Programs. He was transferred to ambulance driver after receiving a broken ear drum. His assignment was picking up deceased pilot trainees. While in Moncton, he met and married Vera, and they had one son. They returned to Canwood, SK, where he farmed and had two more sons and a daughter. His last 15 years were spent in Saskatoon, SK, where he passed away in 1985. He is buried at the Veterans Cemetery in Saskatoon with full honours. At his request, the coffin was decorated with the Red Ensign Flag and the flag was presented to his oldest son. CLARK, Emeth WWII Emeth was born in Cadogan, Alberta in 1917, where his mother and father, Jack and Pansy (Christie) Clark had taken homestead. Emeth joined the Army in 1942 and served with the South Saskatchewan Regiment on the continent. He returned to Canada in 1946 and took his discharge. He married Gladys Quale and had two children. The family moved to Edmonton in 1957 where Emeth specialized in industrial pipe-fittings and worked on several major projects in the north. CHRISTOPHERSON, Clifford WWII Clifford was born in Maidstone in 1917, the son of Thoralf and Jessie May Christopherson. He went to school in Marsden and was working for Imperial Oil at Neilberg when he enlisted in the RCAF. He was married to Phyllis Irene (Heather). Clifford passed away on October 26, 1946 at age 26 in the crash on take-off of a Ventura at Dorval en route to his Ferry Command Post at Goose Bay, Labrador. He is buried at Birch Hills.
