The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 77 CAMPBELL, George John WWII George was born in Canwood, SK, in 1916. He joined the Army in 1942 but did not go overseas. He trained in Regina, SK, Petawawa, ON, and also in Halifax, NS. When he was discharged in April 1946 and received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. He came back to Canwood, and in 1947 he bought two quarters of land through the Veterans Land in Stump Lake, SK and farmed there and raised a family. He passed away in March 1996, and is buried in the Legion Plot in the North Cemetery Canwood, SK. CAMPBELL, Gordon WWII Gordon was one of three boys born to Charles Forbes Campbell and Lillian (Barrs) Campbell and attended Fisher and Birch Hills Schools. He enlisted in the RCAF and was the last of the three boys to go to war. CAREY, Edward Robert “Eddy” WWII Edward was born in Pipestone, Manitoba, in 1911. He enlisted in the Army in March 1941 and was sent to England in 1942 after his training. On the night of July 3, 1944, his troop was sent from Dover to action in France. From there, they went to Germany, Holland and Belgium. He was wounded in action in March of 1944, but after a stay in the hospital, he was returned to his regiment. He returned home in May 1945, after the war ended. Like many Veterans who were wounded in action, Eddy was often in pain from the shrapnel left in his body. It was always a grim reminder of what he had been through. Eddy passed away in 1993. CAMPBELL, Torans Henry “Scotty” WWII Torans was born in 1922 in Star City, SK to parents Henry and Elizabeth Campbell. He volunteered for service at the age of 20 in 1943. He was initially assigned to the artillery and was transferred to the Royal Winnipeg Rifles Company D. He was shipped to England for further training. Torans was seriously wounded at Normandy on D Day and spent almost a year in a hospital in London, Halifax and finally Regina. His wounds partially disabled him for the rest of his life. Scotty passed away on June 1, 1986.
