The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 73 CAMERON, Esther WWII Esther was born in Munich, North Dakota, USA in 1923 to Duncan and Mary Cameron. The family came to Canada in 1927 and settled in Tompkins in 1937. Esther joined the CWAC and was stationed at Camp Borden, where she spent two years. While in the Army, she met her future husband, Nick Tyzuk, and together they had three sons and lived in Vegreville, AB, until Nick passed away in 2004. Esther is now in a nursing home in Lamont, Alberta. CAMERON, James “Jim” WWII Jim was born on June 25, 1913 in Carlyle, SK. He enlisted with the Canadian Army in 1946 and served in England until his discharge in 1946. CAMERON, Lloyd William WWII Lloyd was born in 1919 in Carlyle, SK. He enlisted with the Canadian Army and was stationed in England with the Signal Corps. Lloyd was killed in July of 1943, a victim of a bombing raid near London. CAMERON, Kenneth Alastair WWII Alastair was born in Carlyle, SK. His dream was to “fly” and so he worked hard to get his Pilot’s wings. In 1944, he received this honor at an impressive ceremony called the ‘Wings Parade”. At this ceremony he also received his Sergeant’s Stripes. Alastair was then sent home on an indefinite leave because the Air Force had too many pilots. They needed navigators and gunners. This was an anxious time for Alastair. He so wanted to get back to the work he loved, but never did. He received his discharge in 1945. Alastair was a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Carlyle Branch #248.
