The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 69 BRUCE, Rupert Earl WWII Rupert joined the Army on November 8, 1941, and served with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corp. 1st Division in England, Sicily, France, Holland, and Belgium until his discharge on November 29, 1945. After the war, Rupert returned to civilian life. For his service, he received the Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the Italy Star, and the France-Germany Star. BRUCE, Rupert Milton WWII Rupert was born in the Sturgeon Valley District on November 3, 1918 and attended Brant School. After that, he worked as a farm hand until he joined the Army on March 16, 1940, taking his basic training in Canada then going overseas to England, Sicily, Italy, France and Holland. He received the Italy, France-Germany and Holland Medals, the Voluntary Service Medal and two Defence Medals. He returned home five years to the day that he left for overseas and was discharged on July 19, 1946. Rupert married Mary Ernst of Sturgeon Valley on June 16, 1950, and raised a family of eight children. He received the half section of land in the Deer Ridge District for farming. He passed away at his home from a heart attack on September 5, 1989. BURGE, James Winthrop WWI Jim was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on August 6, 1896 and joined the 230th Forestry Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force in Dauphin, Manitoba on January 22, 1914. He served in England and France, and was later awarded the 1914-1915 Star, the British War Medal, and the Army Class “A” War Service Badge. He was honourably released on June 7, 1916. Jim bought soldier settlement land north of Broadview, SK and married Alva Hayhurst and had a family of three daughters and one son. He passed away on July 7, 1988. BUCHAN, George WWI George was born in Abudeanshire, Scotland in 1878 and enlisted with the CEF 96th Battalion on April 14, 1916 serving in France. He as discharged on April 14, 1919.
