The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 47 BECKING, Robert KOREA Robert was born in the Langenburg area. He joined the Army and served in Canada and Korea. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the Korean War Medal. BEDWELL, William WWII William was born in Marchwell, SK. He enlisted with the RCAF in 1940 as an aircraft maintenance engineer, and served guard duty in British Columbia from August-October 1940. He attended St. Thomas Technical School from October 1940-March 1941; aero engine mechanics in Dartmouth, NS; worked as a flight engineer in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia; and aircraft flight test engineer in Ottawa; geodetic survey in northern Canada; and submarine patrol. He also learned other trades such as airplane mechanic, hydraulics, electrical, radio, navigational, air gunnery, and how to fly an aircraft. On January 5, 1945, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. BELLEGARDE, Vincent Joseph WWII Vincent was born in Peepeekesis First Nation on September 8, 1912. He joined the Regina Rifles Regiment in 1939 and served in Canada, England, France, Holland, Belgium and Germany. He was in the first wave at Juno Beach. He received medals for gallantry in action, was mentioned in Disptaches, received the Oak Leaf Citation, and was awarded the King’s Certificate. After the war, he farmed for 13 years and he and his wife, Cora, raised six children. He worked with the Indian and Northern Affairs in the Provincial Government in Vocational Training and as a Commissionaire at various sites in Regina. Vincent passed away on July 29, 1991. BELL, Lorne Cecil WWII Lorne was born in 1925 in Carlyle, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Wireless Air Gunner in 1943 and served until his discharge in 1945. Lorne passed away in 1989.
