The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 377 ZENTNER, Norman E. WWII Norman was born in Langenburg, SK, on March 17, 1925. He enlisted in the Army on March 11, 1944, and was discharged on May 17, 1946. He married Edna in 1948, and they raised a family of four and some foster children. After the war, Norman returned home to farm until 1956. He became an elevator agent for National (later Cargill), which took him to Saltcolts, Landis, Bredenburg, and Carlyle for 15 years. He then worked for a potash mine until his retirement in 1983 in Regina. ZENTNER, William John WWII William was born in Langenburg, SK, in 1918. He joined the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry RCIC. He was killed overseas on February 8, 1945, and is buried at Ravena War Cemetery in Piangipane, Italy. He has a geo memorial in northern Saskatchewan: Zentner Lake. He received the Defence Medal, the Cross of Valour with purple ribbon (Purple Cross). ZINKE, Arnold WWII Arnold joined the Army on November 6, 1942. He was discharged on March 13, 1946. He moved to Lampman, SK, then to a home in Estevan, SK. ZERR, Leo Carl WWII Leo was born in Marchwell, SK, on March 20, 1921. He enlisted in the Air Force on May 19, 1941, as an aero engine mechanic, serving in several areas in Canada on engine overhauls, aircraft assembly, and servicing aircrafts. He was discharged in December 1945, when he was transferred to Class “E” of Reserve 14. He went back to finished his high school education and went on to university, graduating as a petroleum engineer. In 1945, he married Connie and they had two children. Connie and Leo made their home in Calgary, where he enjoyed a few years of retirement before passing away in Calgary on August 7, 1992.
