The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 373 YESKE, Woodrow R. WWII Woodrow was born in Langenburg, SK, on May 5, 1926. He took his WETP in Winnipeg and TS in Regina, training as an air gunner. After completion of training with course #95, the last to graduate from # 3 B&G at MacDonald, he received his AG Brevet and was honourably released on March 7, 1945, and transferred to Reserve General Section Class “E.” After the war, he worked with his father and brother in Langenburg until October 1946, when he obtained employment at a lumber mill in Port Alberni, BC. He married Caroline in 1948, and they raised five children. In 1962, he became a Registered Psychiatric Nurse in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. He retired in 1984. Besides being a Life Member of The Legion, he was also a Life Member of the Ex-Air Gunners Association of Canada Inc. Woodrow passed away on December 13, 1988. YONT, William H. WWII William was born in Marchwell, SK, on November 6, 1913. He enlisted with the Canadian Army Service Corps on February 23, 1944, and served as a tractor operator and garage mechanic for one year in Canada, the UK, and Continental Europe. He also served occupational duty after the war until his discharge on August 8, 1946. He married Eileen and they raised four children. After his discharge, he drove a petroleum truck for 27 years. When he retired, he drove a school bus until his death on January 30, 1974, in Marchwell, SK. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the France-Germany Star, and the 1939-45 War Medal. YOUNG, James “Wesley” WWII Wes was born on September 11, 1925, to Archie and Maisie (Anderson) Young on the farm that was two miles north of Carlyle. Wes received his education at the Carlyle Schools. In 1942, at the age of seventeen, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy. He served on the corvette HMS Pictou, which conveyed troopships and destroyers across the North Atlantic. Wes was discharged in 1945, and he returned home to help with the farming. He married Nona Hill of Oxbow in 1948, and they had three children: Robert, Debbie and Lorna. Wes rejoined the Navy as a photographer and moved the family to Victoria on Vancouver Island. After being discharged from the Navy, Wes did Security work for various government buildings. Wes passed away in 1984. YOUNG, Howard A. WWII Howard was born on December 23, 1923 the third son born to Archie and Maisie (Anderson) Young, who farmed two miles north of Carlyle, SK. After he graduated from Carlyle High School, he joined the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve in 1942. He served on the corvette HMS Stellarton, which convoyed troop ships and destroyers across the North Atlantic. He was discharged at the end of WWII. He returned to Carlyle, and he and Alex Dodds opened the Young & Dodds Insurance Business. Howard & Ron purchased land northeast of Manor for $5.35 an acre with money borrowed from VLA. In 1951, Howard married Audrey Gustafson, and they raised five children: Wayne, Sheila, Dianne, Connie and Tim. Howard passed away in 1998, a victim of cancer.
