The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 371 YABLONSKI, Edmond WWII Edmond was born in Poland on November 25, 1919. He immigrated to Saskatchewan in 1929. In 1939, he joined the Royal Canadian Engineers and served across Western and Eastern Canada as a heavy machine operator, ending up with the Military Police in Halifax as a jail guard. Two weeks later, the war ended and he returned to farm in Saskatchewan. In 1949, he married Julia, and they raised a family of two daughters and one son. Ed passed away at home on August 23, 2002. YESKE, Ewald WWII Ewald was born in Langenburg, SK, on March 24, 1919. He joined the Royal Canadian Infantry, Winnipeg Light Infantry on June 10, 1942, stationed in BC. He volunteered for the 1st Canadian Paratroop Battalion to be trained at Fort Benning, Georgia, but did not pass the required medical examinations in Montreal. He returned to the Infantry and served with the Armed Forces until his medical discharge on December 16, 1944. He married Eleanor in 1945, and they raised two children. He continued farming, until they retired in 1979 and moved to Langenburg. He was a Life Member of The Legion. He enjoyed playing the guitar and was an avid supporter of hockey. Ewald was a gentle and compassionate man, and he passed away on November 25, 2001. YESKE, Hubert L. WWII Hubert was born in Langenburg, SK, on October 11, 1922. He joined the Air Force #16 Bomber Reconnaissance Squadron on July 10, 1941, as an aero mechanic, serving the North Atlantic. He remustered to Air Crew in 1943, and graduated as Flight Engineer in 1944 and was posted to #161 Squadron - Coastal Command, engaged in convoy escort and anti-submarine patrol. He married Olive, and they raised two children after the war. He was discharged on August 22, 1945, and he went into the family business of garage implements and bulk oil with his brother, Norman. In 1958, he started work at a potash mine, and retired in 1983. Hubert received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the Atlantic Star, the 1939-45 Star, the Victory Medal, and the Canadian Forces Decoration. YESKE, Gordon WWII Gordon was born on October 19, 1932. He joined the Air Force in 1952, and was discharged in 1981. He married Marion in Toronto in 1952 and they raised two children. He retired in 1981, and lives in North Bay, Ontario.
