The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 369 WRIGHT, Joe Austin WWII Joe was born in St. Walburg, SK, on June 29, 1921. He joined the “Red Squadron” Royal Canadian Air Force as Warrant Officer Class 1 in January 1941. His plane was shot down over the English Channel in May 1943, and he was taken as a prisoner of war until September 1944. He suffered from gun shot wounds in the head and brain damage, and was unable to care for himself. He went blind on June 12th. He was finally sent to the mental hospital in North Battlefiord and spent 46 years there. Joe passed away on July 2, 1995. WRIGHT, John Austin WWI John was born in Carnduff, SK, on October 20, 1889. He joined the 108th Battalion CEF and served in England. He passed away on November 20, 1943. John was president of his local Legion Branch until his death. WYLLIE, Alexander Jamieson WWI Alexander was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on April 11, 1898. He joined the 217th Battalion Saskatchewan Regiment - CMR on February 22, 1916, and served in France. He was killed in action by a sniper on August 26, 1918, at Monchy-le-Preux near Arras WYLIE, Donald Chester WWII Donald joined the Army on January 26, 1945, and trained at Camp Shilo, Manitoba. He was discharged on April 26, 1946. Donald passed away in Saskatoon on December 20, 1988.
