The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 357 WHITING, Frederick William WWI & WWII Frederick was born in Qu’Appelle, SK, on August 12, 1894. He joined the 16th Light Horse “C” Squadron in 1910, and was discharged in 1914. Then he joined the Canadian Field Artillery on October 11, 1916, and was discharged on May 30, 1919. In World War II, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on June 13, 1941, and was discharged on August 3, 1943, after serving in Canada, England and France. He was wounded in France on September 2, 1918, and was awarded the British War Medal, the Victory Medal (WWI), the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, and the War Medal (WWII). Frederick passed away on February 1, 1982. WHITING, Maurice Frederick WWII & KOREA & PEACETIME Maurice was born in Qu’Appelle, SK, on July 23, 1921. He joined the 1st Battalion Regina Rifles Regiment on June 20, 1940, and was discharged on March 27, 1946. He then joined the Royal Canadian School of Infantry on April 29, 1951 and was discharged on February 10, 1954. He then joined the 2nd Battalion Queens Own Rifles of C. on February 11, 1954 and was discharged on April 18, 1971 after serving in Canada, England, Holland, Germany and Korea.. He was commissioned in February 1944 and retired with rank of Major. As a civilian he served at NDHQ as Director of Parliamentary Affairs and was assistant to the Minister of national Defence for five years before his retirement. WHITING, William Millar WWII William was born in Qu’Appelle, SK, on June 9, 1925. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on July 16, 1942, and was honourably released on January 15, 1945, and transferred to the reserve, general section, class “E” associated with the #586 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets from 1967 to 1972. He did 4 years as Commanding Officer. He has been a member of The Legion for 64 years. WHITING, Percy Howard PEACETIME Percy was born in Qu’Appelle, SK, on September 21, 1929. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force - Regular Force on January 18, 1951, and was discharged on January 17, 1956, after serving in Canada and England. He was the first in his class on a “Food Service Attendant Course Special” and served in that capacity throughout his service.
