The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 33 ARNOTT, Roy WWI Roy was born in Grey County, Ontario, on October 19, 1893. The family moved to Michigan, USA, in 1898, then to Ceylon, SK, in 1906. In 1915, he joined the 49th Battalion CEF in Edmonton and served in England and France. On February 22, 1919, he was discharged and he farmed in Ceylon, SK. He then took his family to Michigan, where he worked in the auto industry. Roy passed away on April 15, 1961. ARNTSEN, J. Danny SECRET SERVICE – SOUTH PACIFIC Danny enlisted on June 19, 1941, and served overseas with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals, as well as the Army Service Corps. He took Basic Radio and Transmission training in Kingston and later he was transferred to the Royal Canadian Artillery and promoted to Sergeant. He trained on 3.7 cannons in Aldershot, NS, and was then transferred to the RCOC where he was in charge of Radar Workshops. He was transferred to RCEME, then later to the Australian Army. He joined the Allied Intelligence Bureau, Brisbane. Danny was discharged on April 30, 1946. His service was instrumental in stopping the Japanese invasions. He holds the Pacific Star and has been a member of The Legion for more than 60 years, holding all positions up to the Provincial Command level. AUSTMAN, Wally KOREA Wally was a radio operator with the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry in Korea in 1952. He escaped serious injury but did receive a bullet in the arm during night manoeuvres. He often had to go out at night with a stretcher and find bodies to bring back to the aid station. AUSTIN, Joseph WWI Joseph was born in England in 1873. He joined the 195th O.S. Battalion on April 4, 1916 as a Sergeant, serving in France. He was discharged on May 21, 1919 with the rank of CSM. He received the following decorations: the Tirah Expd. India Medal, the Queen’s South Africa and King’s South Africa Medals, the General Service Medal, Victory Medal, and the Great War Medal. Joseph returned to farming and joined the Earl Grey Branch #137 of The Royal Canadian Legion on March 29, 1930.
