The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 337 TOMMAN, Nicholas WWII Nicholas was born in Hafford, SK, on January 4, 1920. He enlisted in the Army in 1941, and served at Suffield Experimental Station. He was discharged in 1946 and received the War Medal. TORRIE, George WWI & WWII George was born in Lonlaketon, NWT, in 1894. He joined the 68th Battalion in Regina in December 1915, and went overseas in early 1916, and was transferred to the P.P.C.L.I. in France. He was wounded at Passchendaele on October 26, 1917. He returned to action and was decorated with the Military Medal for action in the Battle of Canal du Nord in the Fall of 1918. George was discharged on March 20, 1919, and returned to farming. At the outbreak of hostilities in 1939, George enlisted and was taken on in the Veterans Guard and guarded POW camps at Espanolla, ON, Seebee and Medicine Hat, AB. He was also posted to St. Georges, British Guyana. guarding the loading of ships. He was discharged in 1945, and passed away on March 28, 1981, at age 86. TRAVAGLINE, James F. PEACETIME James was born in Glace Bay, NS, in 1941. He joined the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps at age 16 as an apprentice soldier in September 1957, and completed his training and was posted to 3rd Field Ambulance RCAMC at Sarcee Barracks in Calgary in September 1959. In 1966, he was posted to 13th Coy, RCASC, Currie Barracks in Calgary, and in 1970, was posted to 1st Field Ambulance RCAMC in Gagetown, NB. In 1973, he was transferred to CFS Beaverlodge, a radar station in Alberta, where he took his retirement in April 1978. He has been an active Legion Member since 1973, and has been a member of the Delisle Branch #184 for the past 15 years, where he served as VP and Sergeant-at-Arms. He and his wife, Dorothy, reside in Saskatoon. TOUPICH, John WWII John was born in the Ukraine in 1921. He joined the 113th Field Battery Royal Canadian Artillery in Moosemin, SK, on January 3, 1940, as a gunner and served in Canada, the UK and Central Mediterranean. He married Violet Masters in Wadhurst, east of Sussex, England, on February 13, 1943. He was wounded in the right hip, right ankle, and left hand in Italy in 1943, and went to Deer Lodge Hospital in Winnipeg. He was discharged on May 30, 1945, and returned to Fairlight and worked hauling and delivering mail from the CNR Station to the Fairlight Post Office to Ryerson and Moir. John passed away in May 1975.
