The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 325 TAWPISIM, Alexander WWI & WWII Alexander was born in Muskeg Lake Cree Nation in 1897. He enlisted in the Army on May 15, 1916, serving in Canada, Britain and France, and was discharged on August 24, 1919. He re-enlisted with the Veterans Guard on August 18, 1942, and was discharged on August 4, 1945. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the War Medal 1939-45, the Victory Medal, and the British War Medal. Alexander passed away in 1961. TAYLOR, Alfred Douglas WWII Alfred was born in Ogema., SK, on April 13, 1923. He joined the 419th Squadron on December 4, 1942, and served in Canada and England. He was discharged on February 16, 1946, and became a postmaster. He retired after 34 years in Ogema, SK. He was a member of Ogema Branch #67 for 53 years. TAYLOR, John Alexander WWII John was born in Birch Hills, SK, in 1920. He joined the Gold Coast Squadron RCAF, and served in England. He was killed on December 16, 1943, and is commemorated on the Runnymead Memorial near London, England, for airmen with no known grave. John was the only son of Fred and Laura Taylor. TAYLOR, George RIEL REBELLION George was born to George and Adelaide (Cooper) Taylor in Mapleton, MB, in 1855. He married Mary Rose (Smith) Kirkness in 1876, and enlisted under General Middleton in the Riel Rebellion. Upon completion of his service, he was rewarded with 320 acres of land in the Brancepeth area, where the first post office was soon located, and he became the first postmaster and Justice of the Peace. He became one of the first local improvement inspectors when the province was formed in 1905. George and Mary moved to Brancepeth and opened a Post Office and General Store. They were blessed with 12 children and moved to British Columbia, where Mary passed away in 1938 and George in 1946.
