He joined the Army with the C.I.R.U. from March 5, 1942 to February 14, 1946, and served as an “Officer’s Batman” in Canada and England tending to their equipment, shoes, medals, etc., and also doing their chauffeuring. Harry passed away in 1976. He was a member of Canwood Branch #132. SWANSTON, Ernie WWI & BOER WAR Ernie joined the Lord Strathcona Horse Regiment in 1899 in the Boer War, and the 5th Battalion in 1914 in WWI. He was discharged in April 1919 after serving 4 years overseas. SWEATMAN, Hugh Price WWII Hugh was born in Melville, SK, on February 27, 1918. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on June 23, 1942, and serviced aircraft engines while in England, Canada and Germany from fighter planes up to bombers. He was discharged on April 25, 1946, and passed away on October 17, 2005. He was a member of the Kelliher Branch #219 for 37 years. SWANSTON, Victor WWI Victor enlisted in the World War I in August 1914, and served with the 1st Canadian Contingent in both the 16th Light Horse and the 5th Battalion. In 1918, he was gassed while serving in Germany, and was discharged in February 1919. He returned to civilian life and purchased land through the Soldiers Settlement Board.
