The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 317 STEWART, John WWI John was born in Perth, Scotland, on August 21, 1885. He enlisted with the 96th Battalion Canadian Highlanders in 1916, and served at Vimy Ridge, Hill 70. He was wounded and was discharged in 1918 and worked at carpentry in Calgary. He returned to farm at Mervin in 1921, and was a founding member of the Mervin Branch until his passing in April 1976. STEWART, John Alan Gordon WWII John was born in Daysville, SK, on October 8, 1921. He enlisted in the Army as a leading aircraftsman in 1939 and served in England, Ireland and Scotland. He was discharged in 1945 and returned to Canada to work in road construction. He married Leena Belche, and they had one daughter and resided in North Battleford, SK. John passed away in November 1978. He was a member of the Mervin Branch #121 for 33 years. STONEHOCKER, Ivan Paul WWII Ivan was born on March 23, 1918, in Vegreville, AB. He enlisted in Edmonton as a RCAF Navigator on July 10, 1941, and took his AOS in Regina, and was promoted to Pilot Officer. On August 8, 1942, Ivan married Irene Gustavson from Lacombe. On October 22, 1943, he was promoted to Flight Officer and went to 408 Squadron, Overseas Operations Bomber Command, England. Promoted to Flight Lieutenant, he navigated one operational tour of 31 sorties over enemy territory. On April 10, 1945, King George VI presented him with the DFC for Flying Operational Gallantry with the enemy. He returned home and retired on September 13, 1945. In 2002, he received the Queen Elizabeth Medal for his work in education. He passed away in Red Deer, AB, on March 8, 2004. STONE, William Ernest BOER WAR William was born in England in 1878 and joined the CMR 1st Buffs and served in South Africa. He received the South African Medal 1899-1900. He was a member of Earl Grey Branch #137.
