The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 301 SHORT, Grover Eber WWI Grover was born in Thornhill, MB, on December 29, 1895. He enlisted with the Canadian Army and served in England, France and Belgium. He and his brother joined at different times and when war was over, they both came back to farm in the Bremmer district of Fenton, SK. Grover passed away in October 1987. SHORT, James Elford WWII James was born in Winton, north of Birch Hills in 1920; son of Byron Elford and Annie (Hanson) Short. The family was involved in grain and cattle farming and the children attended Winton School. James joined the Army and married a local girl, Lil Williamson. They had a daughter, Ann, and a son, Dean, who passed away in 1973. They lived in St Louis and were fond of dancing and square dancing. Jim passed away in 2000 and his wife, Lil, predeceased him. He was a member of the Prince Albert Legion for many years. SHORT, Westcott Buckler WWI Westcott was born in Thornhill, MB, on June 7, 1894. He joined the Army serving in England, Belgium and France. He returned home to Winton, SK, in 1919, and farmed in the Fenton, SK, area. He passed away in July 1977. SHORT, Melvin B. WWI Melvin was born in Deloraine, MB, in 1887. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served in France and Belgium. After the war, he came back home to Winton, SK, and farmed in the Fisher district of the Fenton area. Melvin passed away in 1970.
