The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 291 SANDERSON, William Vital WWI William was born in Muskeg Lake Cree Nation on February 4, 1912. He enlisted in the Army on February 23, 1917, serving in Canada, Britain and France. He was discharged on February 12, 1918, and received the British Medal and the Victory Medal. William passed away in 1981. SANDISON, George WWI George was born in Scotland in 1866. He joined the 5th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force in August 1914, at the age of 48, and served for 3 years and 8 months, during which time he was wounded. George had shrapnel wounds in his right side and his foot. He was declared unfit for further service and signed off for $50.00. He was discharged in April 1919, and received the Mons Star. George joined the Earl Grey Branch in June of 1930. SAXTON, Alfred Ernest “Alf” WWII Alfred was born in Leifer, MB, on November 26, 1924. He joined the Canadian Army in October 1943 and served in the Medical Corps in Canada, the UK and Continental Europe. His hospital unit was in Holland when the war ended. He was discharged in August 1946, and married Alena Swan and they farmed at Demaine, SK, and raised seven children until his passing on September 24, 2008. Alf was a loyal member of The Royal Canadian Legion Beechy Branch #324 for 47 years. He was Sgt-at-Arms for 7 years, Secretary-Treasurer for 13 years and 2nd Vice President for one year. He was awarded the Certificate of Merit by his grateful comrades in 2006. Alf loved playing cribbage and his team played in The Legion Provincial Playoffs a number of times. SATHER, Kristen WWII Kristen was born in Norway in 1910. He joined the Army, serving in Canada. He passed away in 2001. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Canwood Branch #132 for 40 years.
