The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 279 REID, Gordon Albert WWII Gordon was born in Canwood, SK, in 1924. He joined the Cameron Highlands at the age of 19 and took his training in Yarmouth, NS, and Borden, ON. He was sent to Holland as a stretcher bearer until the end of the war. Gordon passed away in 1987. REID (GREYEYES), Mary WWII Mary was born in Muskeg Lake Cree Nation, SK, on November 14, 1920. She joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corp on July 4, 1942, and served in Canada and Britain. She was discharged on June 3, 1946, and received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the Defence Medal and War Medal 1939-45. REIN, Ferdinand WWII Ferdinand was born in Zawaneye, Poland, in 1923. He enlisted in the Army on October 28, 1943, at Regina, SK, and trained as a gunner. In May of 1944, he took part in the Gas-Compound-Mustard Experiment in Southern Alberta. He was discharged on October 31, 1945, on compassionate grounds. Ferdinand passed away in 2003. REID (ORTON), Evelyn WWII Evelyn was born in Winton, SK, on August 20, 1918; the seventh in a family of ten children born to Wilfred Richard and Annie May Orton. She took a correspondence course in stenography and then joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corps and was stationed in Ottawa. After the war, she went to Rehab School, and in 1947, she married Frank Evans of New Market, ON, and they had two children: Jean and Dick. After 14 years of marriage, Frank passed away and the family moved back to Crystal Springs. Evelyn married Arthur Reid in 1967, and they farmed at Crystal Springs until Evelyn passed away on June 22, 1998.
