He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Army Services on January 3, 1940, as a motor mechanic and took his training at Camp Borden, ON. He embarked at Halifax on a ship bound for England arriving on May 14, 1940. He took a small arms course in 1940 and also qualified as a cook Group B and cook Group C in January 1942. He also qualified as Driver IC Class III in April 1942. Ernest spent some time in England, 1½ years in Italy and one year in France and Belgium. He received the 1939-35 Star, the Italy Star, the France-Germany Star, the Defence Medal. Ernest passed away in 1980. PINKNEY, William Joseph WWI William was born in Ontario in 1891. He joined the 68th Battalion P.P.C.L.I. in March of 1916 and served in France. He was shot through the lung in the battle at Flers Coucelette. He was discharged in December 1916. POMEROY (HOLMES), Bernice WWII Bernice was born in 1922. She was a WREN writer in the Navy on the HMCS Cornwallis and HMCS Stadacona. POLLARD, Orville Collins WWII Orville was born in Blaine Lane, SK, on August 6, 1923. He enlisted in the Air Force as a gunner on October 31, 1943, serving in Canada, France, Belgium and Holland. He was discharged on July 13, 1946, and received the War Medal and Defence Medal. He farmed in Mayfair and retired in Saskatoon.
