The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 261 OVERGAARD, Rasmus Thorvald WWII Rasmus was born in Denmark on January 24, 1905. He joined the Navy with ABC Shore Patrol, serving in Canada. He passed away in 1995. PARK, Gordon H. WWII Gordon was born in Saskatchewan in 1921. He joined the Air Force in October 1941, and trained in air engines in Saskatoon until March 13, 1942. He was then sent to Brandon for basic training and then on to St. Thomas, ON, until 1942; to Vulcan, AB, and then on to Pierce, AB. In 1944, he was sent to Lethbridge to close the station. He was discharged in Regina in June of 1945. PATTERSON, Clyde WWII Clyde was born in Woodstock, ON, on May 5, 1919. He enlisted in the Army in 1941, and received his training in Regina, Dundurn and Whitehorse, Yukon. He went overseas on August 26, 1943, with the Lake Superior Regiment. He took infantry training in the UK and served as a general duty rifleman. On September 10, 1944, Clyde was wounded in action in Belgium and was returned to his unit for further action after his recovery. He was awarded the CVSM and Clasp, the 1939-45 Star, the France-Germany Star, the Defence Medal and the War Medal 1939-45. Clyde had married Mary Murray on September 14, 1942, and they raised six children. He was discharged on March 15, 1946, and took up farming. Clyde passed away in July 1979, at age 60. PARKS, William Herbert “Herb” WWII Herb was born in First Nation Muskoday, SK, in 1912; one of four children to William and Dorothy (Isbister) Parks. In 1922, the family moved to the Davis area, and he went to Island Lake School until he was 13 and had to go to work. In 1940-45, he was in the Canadian Army and spent five years overseas. Upon his return, he married Jessie Bear and had two daughters: Diane Laurette and Wilma Jayne. They moved to British Columbia, where Herb worked for BC Ferries, shipyards and heavy construction. He and Jessie both belonged to The Legion, and he was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge and a member of the First Nations Veterans Association. Herb passed away on December 3, 2007. Jessie had predeceased him.
