The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 255 ODEGAARD, Hans M. WWII Hans was born in Valbrand, SK, in 1920. He enlisted in Saskatoon, and served with the Governor General Footguards from 1942 to 1946, and took his basic training in Vernon, and artillery and tank training in Brandon, serving as a mechanic for armoured tank reinforcements in England, Belgium, Holland, Germany and Canada. Hans was amazed to run into servicemen from home, including his brother in various places during the war. ODEGAARD (GOULDING), Norah WWII Norah was born in Canwood, SK, in 1923. She signed up in Saskatoon, taking her basic training in Toronto and then went to Calgary for Officer’s Training, which she didn’t complete because the war ended and she was discharged. Norah served in the post office with the Royal Canadian Air Force Women’s Division from 1942 to 1945. OGENCHUK, John WWII John was born in Alticane, SK, on March 4, 1919. He joined the Army in 1941 and served in Canada. He was discharged in 1944, and returned to the family farm in Hafford, SK. John passed away on July 11, 2008. ODEGAARD, Walter Theodore WWII Walter was born in Prince Albert, SK, in 1921. He joined the 7th Anti-Tank Royal Canadian Artillery, serving in England, Sicily, Africa, Italy, Belgium and Holland. He found serving in the Italian Campaign very difficult, but did not speak of his experiences. He passed away in 1983.
