The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 251 NICHOLAS, Archie WWII Archie was born in 1920 and joined the British 8th Army/2nd Canadian Brigade and served in Canada, England, the Mediterranean and Italy. He received the 1939-45 War Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the Defence Medal, the Italy Star, and the 1939-45 Star. NIESMAN, Gordon Frederick WWII Gordon was born on the home farm in Ardill, SK, on September 21, 1923. He enlisted with the #12 District Depot of the Air Force on April 9, 1942, and served in the UK and Continental Europe. He was discharged on December 6, 1945, and received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, 1939-45 Star, France-Germany Star, and Defence Medal. In 1945, the town of Mossbank honoured all Veterans who served in World War II. In 2003, they received a citation from the Dutch Government commemorating the 60th Anniversary. Gordon passed away on June 19, 2003. NORDSTROM, Eldon WWII Eldon was born in Canwood, SK, on May 15, 1919. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and trained in Saskatoon, SK, and on to Halifax, NS. He went overseas to Plymouth, England, and sailed to Africa and Italy carrying supplies. He served as a stoker on the ships Prince Robert and Queen Mary II for both Canada and England. Following the war, Eldon took up farming in the Merchant Grove District, and later in Canwood, SK. Eldon passed away in1988. NORDSTROM, Clarence Arthur “Cully” WWII Cully was born in Canwood, SK, on June 9, 1918. He was one of the first to sign up with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps, Ammunition Park attached to the 3rd Infantry Brigade, Seventh Corps, serving in Aldershot, England, in 1940. By 1941, he had seen a fair amount of the country driving a convoy truck. The makeshift accommodation combined with cold and wet weather resulted in Cully contracting a serious sinus condition. Surgery resulted in complications and infection, and ultimately he was discharged and in rehabilitation. He passed away in 1993.
