He joined the Navy on June 29, 1943, serving on the High Seas, England and Australia. He was discharged on October 30, 1945, and received the 1939-45 Star, the Pacific Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the War Medal 1939-45. He was a Gunner on Merchant Ships. NELSON, Milford “Mel” WWII Milford was born in Broderick, SK, in 1922; one of six children born to Joseph and Emma Nelson, who moved to the Hagen district from Broderick in 1933. He served with the Royal Canadian Air Force during the war. He married Ruby Robertson in British Columbia in 1948, and lived there for several years. Mel worked for the CPR, and they moved to Calgary where he worked for Canada Manpower until his passing in 1972. NESSETH, Murnet WWII Murnet was born in Speers, SK, on May 17, 1925. He joined the Army in 1934 with the motorized infantry, serving in France, Holland and Germany. He was discharged in 1946, and worked in Smith’s Radiator Shop north of Battleford, SK. He received the War Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Murnet passed away on February 29, 2004. NESSETH, Kermit WWII Kermit was born in Pekin, North Dakota, USA, on October 20, 1919. He enlisted in the Army in 1941 as a machinist, serving in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was discharged in 1946 and lived in West Vancouver and operated a bulldozer. He received the War Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Kermit passed away on May 1, 1985.
