The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 231 MCLEAN, Stanley Wilbur WWII Stanley was born in Macklin, SK, on March 4, 1921. He enlisted in the Air Force on January 5, 1942, serving in Canada, England and Germany. He was discharged on February 15, 1946, and received the Volunteer Medal and Clasp. He returned to Coquitlam, BC and worked in insurance and real estate. He died of a massive coronary at age 34 on October 21, 1955, at Vernon, BC. He was father to three children. MCMURPHY, John D. “Jack” WWII Jack was born on December 24, 1919, near Turtleford, SK. He enlisted in the Army in October 1941 in Saskatoon, but ended up serving with the 7th Medium Regiment from Listowel, ON. In April 1942, the Regiment was sent to England, and Jack was kept busy driving trucks throughout England. On July 11, 1944, the Regiment reached Normandy and he served in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was discharged on November 31, 1945, and went back to farming. Jack is a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion. In his retirement, he enjoys bowling and with his team he won the 2007 Legion Provincials. In May 2008, Jack went back to the beaches of Normandy with two of his daughters. MCWILLIAMS, Alexander Sandy WWII We do not have any history on Sandy except that he lived in the Invergordon district, south of Birch Hills. He had four other brothers in World War II: Ira, Gilbert, George and Clifford. They were the sons of William and Margaret McWilliams. Gilbert and Ira were killed in action in WWII, and their photos are all in the local Legion Branch #122 club rooms. MCNABB, John George WWII John was born in Waitville, SK, in 1915, son of T. J. and E.M. McNabb of Waitville, SK. He joined the Regina Rifles as a Rifleman and served in France and Germany. He was killed in action in France on June 11, 1944, at age 29, and is buried in Beny-Sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery near Reviers, Calvados, France.
