The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 221 MACDIARMID, E. Rea WWII Rea was born in Moose Jaw, SK, in 1922. She joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (Women’s Division) and served in Canada. She has been a member of the Moose Jaw Branch #59 for 46 years. MACDIARMID, Robert John “Ian” WWII Robert was born in Handsworth, SK, in 1921. He joined the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians), serving in Canada, Italy and Holland. He passed away in 1993. He was a member of the Moose Jaw Branch #59 for 32 years. MACGILLIVRAY, Neil Edward WWII Neil was born in 1919 at Hazenmore, SK, to William and Jessie MacGillivray. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in Regina on June 15, 1941, and trained at Brandon, Manitoba #2 Manning Depot, SFTS Claresholm, AB, and Winnipeg for Wireless School training as a Wireless Air Gunner. He was posted at Gaspe, QC, where he did four months of ground duty, then to Mountain View BDG School in 1943 for a refresher course, and to Greenwood, NS, and the Y Depot Halifax until 1943, and then on to Torbay, NL. Neil married Jean Black of Winnipeg on February 8, 1944, and had two sons and one daughter. He passed away on January 25, 1991. Jean passed away on December 16, 2002 at Mont St. Joseph in Prince Albert. MACDONALD, Donald Kenneth “Ken” WWII Ken was born on April 27, 1919, on the family farm south of Carlyle. In September of 1939, he enlisted with the South Saskatchewan Regiment and trained at Shilo, MB, Toronto, and Halifax. Ken participated in the Dieppe Raid, losing many friends and comrades. At Christmas 1943, Ken was assigned to the English Army to attend the Royal Military College at Camberley, where he graduated as a lieutenant of the Canadian Army. On December 20, 1944, during a raid on a German position, Ken was wounded. He was discharged on May 25, 1945. Ken and his wife, Dorothy, spent the rest of their working years at the family farm. Dorothy passed away on March 7, 1992, and Ken passed away on January 9, 1999, after a valiant battle with cancer.
