The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 191 JOHNSTON, William Henry WWI & WWII William was born in Owen Sound, Ontario, in 1891. He enlisted in the 1st Saskatchewan Depot Battalion on November 1, 1917, and served his time in England and was discharged due to being physically unfit on December 13, 1918. Henry joined the Earl Grey Branch on June 10, 1930. When the hostilities broke out in 1939, Henry again enlisted and served with the Veterans Guard until his discharge in 1945. JONASSON, Clifford Daniel PEACETIME Clifford was born in Big River, SK, on February 17, 1961. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. After completing his course, he came home and took a welding course in Prince Albert, SK, and then went to work in Smithers, BC. He fell from a scaffold while welding and was sent to a Vancouver hospital and passed away on October 14, 1984. KACHMARSKI, Michael WWII Michael was born in Saskatchewan in 1919 and enlisted with the Royal Canadian Engineers in 1941, serving in Canada, the UK, Belgium and Germany. He received the War Medal and the Star of Germany. Upon his discharge, he returned to Speers to farm. He passed away in 2004. JONES, Frederick Nathan WWI Frederick was born in Mobes River, New Brunswick, on October 24, 1897. He joined the Army on May 19, 1917, serving in France until his discharge on June 6, 1919. He moved to Saskatchewan in 1925 and took a homestead in the RM of Canwood; and lived there until 1964, when he had a stroke and spent time in a nursing home in Melfort, SK, and then in the Lions Nursing Home in Prince Albert, SK. He passed away at Victoria Union Hospital in 1974, and is buried in the Legion Plot in Canwood. He was a Legion Member for ten years.
