The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 181 HUNTER, Norman WWII Norman was the son of Alex and Delia Hunter of the Waitville district. He purchased a homestead and built a log cabin. In 1940, he went to Dryden, Ontario, to work and later joined the Army in Regina and was stationed in Vernon, BC, until he was sent overseas in 1943 to serve in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and the Continent. He returned home in 1945. Norman married Vivian Wice in 1942 and they had two children. HUNTER, Thomas WWII Thomas was born in Deloraine, Manitoba, in 1919. He joined the RCASC in 1940 serving in Canada and England. He came back home in January of 1946. IRVINE, Stan WWII Stan was born in Maymont, SK, on November 16, 1918. He enlisted with the Army in 1943, serving in Canada. He trained in coast artillery and served as assistant cook. After his discharge in 1946, he began farming in the Richard area. Stan received the Defence Medal and War Medal. He passed away on December 29, 2000. Stan was a member of the Speers Branch #116 and North Battleford Branch #70. INKSON, Arthur WWI & WWII Arthur was born in Newcastle on Tyne, England, in 1897. On June 13, 1918, Arthur was drafted under Military Services Act of 1917 to serve in WWI. He replaced his brother, James, who was required on the farm to look after his mother and sisters. He was mobilized to the UK and served with the Canadian Engineers. On June 26, 1919, WWI ended and Arthur returned to civilian life on demobilization. On February 14, 1941, he joined the Canadian Army in Saskatoon for active duty with a rank of private. He was mobilized and served in the UK as a driver mechanic and employed this trade in the RCCC Corps. At the end of WWII, Arthur was discharged on August 2, 1945, and he returned to civilian life. He passed away in 1979.
