The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 169 HOFFMAN, Albert Sylvester WWII Albert was born in Saskatchewan, and was a Sapper with the Royal Canadian Engineers. He was killed on May 1, 1945 and is commemorated on the Grossbeck Memorial near Nijmegen, Netherlands for soldiers from the liberation of the lowlands who died with no known grave. HOFFMAN, Edward J. WWII Edward was born in Bremen, SK, in 1922. He served in the Army overseas with the Regina Rifles as a Regiment Policeman for most of his service. He stayed in Holland after the war as part of the Occupational Forces until the end of 1945. He came home to Canada on January 1, 1946. He is a member of the Wakaw Branch #195. HOILAND, Peder WWII Peder was born in Tyme, Norway, on January 9, 1924. He enlisted in the Navy and served on the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. He was discharged in 1946 and became an electrician. Peder married Lois Schafer of Fenton in 1945 and had a family of five children. They retired to run a fishing camp at Clarke Lake in the summers, and lived in Birch Hills in the winters. Peder passed away in 1999. Lois lives in Prince Albert. HOFFMAN, Louis Edward WWII Louis was born in Invergordon District of SK in 1918. He joined the Iroquois Squadron RCAF as a wireless air gunner. He was killed in action on February 21, 1945, and is buried at Reichswald War Cemetery, near Kleve, Germany. His Lancaster went missing during a night raid on Dortmund. He was educated at Invergordon School and at Birch Hills and was farming at Vulcan, AB, with his wife, Lavina, and children, Henry and Patricia when he enlisted in 1942.
