The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 133 GARTNER, Eugene John WWII Eugene was born in Dilke, SK, on April 6, 1923. He joined the Navy in July 1943 and served on the HMCS Haida (Destroyer) on the North Atlantic run to the Port of Murmansk, Russia. He was discharged in December 1945 and went back to farming. He is a 40 year member of the Ogema Branch #67. GAUTHIER, Aime Noel WWII Aime was born on July 18, 1917 in Storthoaks, SK. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force on June 6, 1942, and trained as a Signal Corp. Operator in Kingston, ON. In November of 1942, he changed to cooking and trained in Kingston and Hamilton, ON. In 1943, he was transferred overseas and cooked for 3rd Battalion of the Canadian Engineers on their tour through Europe. When he was discharged, he returned to Storthoaks and took over his father’s General Store and Barber Shop. Aime has been a member of Carlyle Branch #248 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 62 years. GERMAIN, Mossom Alfred WWI Mossom was born in Omemee, Ontario, in 1885 and joined the 28th (North West) Battalion and served in Canada, England and Europe. He received the VC (not the Victoria Cross). He passed away in 1964. He has been a member of the Moose Jaw Branch #59 for 45 years. GERBRANDT, Raymond E. WWII Ray lived in Birch Hills from 1966 to 1977 as an agent operator for Canadian National Railways. At that time, the station closed for good and Ray moved on to other points. While Ray and Joanne lived there, they were involved with The Legion and the Auxiliary. Ray had served in the Army for four years in Kingston and Ottawa, Ontario, from 1943 to 1946. Ray and Joanne were married for 50 years and had six children. Raymond passed away on December 17, 1997 in Saskatoon.
