383 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WILSON, J. Bruce J. Bruce Wilson was born on August 10, 1923, in London, Ontario. He was a natural athlete in High School, excelling in rugby, swimming, hockey and basketball. While there, he worked part time at theYMCA as a swimming instructor, teaching boxing and tumbling. He is entered on the Military Honour Rolls at Victoria Public School and South Collegiate in London. Bruce enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) Canadian Infantry Corp on June 15, 1943, in London. Basic training took place in Chatham and Camp Ipperwash, Ontario with the CIC. After serving 19 months in Canada, Bruce arrived in the UK in December 1944 and posted to the 14th Battalion CanadianAuxiliary Services Section. In February 1945, Bruce was transferred to the 11th Battalion Canadian Base Reinforcement Group in Northwest Europe. Later in October, he was with the Canadian Forces Netherlands and promoted to Sergeant. In December 1945, he was attached to the 1st Canadian Army Staff Amsterdam through to March 1946. Returning to Canada, Bruce was discharged on June 26, 1946. A longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Byron-Springbank Branch 533, Bruce passed away on January 11, 2013, and is laid to rest in Forest Lawn Cemetery in London Ontario. WILSON, William Hannah “Bill” Bill was born on January 21, 1917, in Toronto to William Hannah and Joan (Mills) Wilson. He graduated with Junior Matriculation from Oakwood Collegiate, and joined his father’s cartage business as a trucker. Called up under the National Resources Mobilization Act and was attested on May 21, 1942. He served with the Prince of Wales Rangers in Niagara and Woodstock to learn his trade as a Driver Mechanic then served in that role in various locations in British Columbia, rising through the ranks from Private to Sergeant. He moved from NRMA to General Service on December 8, 1944, attesting in Vernon, BC and proceeding overseas on January 2, 1945. He returned from the United Kingdom in January 1946 and was discharged on March 6, 1946 in Toronto. Bill married Catherine in 1948 in Nanaimo and raised a family, settling in Downsview. He returned to the cartage business after his discharge, until he passed away on February 7, 1971. He was cremated and his ashes are interred in Prospect Cemetery, Toronto. WINN, Richard Joseph Richard was born in Sudbury, Ontario on October 25, 1944. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces (Regular Force) in July 1963 and after training as a military policeman (CProC), was posted to Montréal, Quebec. He returned to civilian life in July 1966 and worked at Northern Electric (NORTEL) in Montréal where he retired as an Engineering Manager after 34 years. Richard moved from Montréal to Glengarry in 1996. Prior to proud membership in the Lancaster Legion Branch 544, he was a member of the Legion Branch 108 in Chateauguay, Québec for many years.
