487 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND YATES, Kenneth Gordon “Ken” Ken was born on March 26, 1919 in Owen Sound, Ontario, to Edmond and Mary Yates. He enlisted in the Army in 1940 during World War II and did his basic training in Camp Borden, Ontario. He was medically discharged in 1941. After returning from the service, he worked at various jobs as manual labor. Ken was married to Norma Farrow in 1954 and raised a family of nine children. He retired in 1973 due to ill health and passed away on September 15, 1984. He is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Owen Sound, Ontario. YATES, Thomas McCaskill “Tom” Tom was born on July 19, 1923 in Owen Sound, Ontario, to Edmond and Mary Yates. He enlisted in the Army on April 15, 1942 and discharged on November 23, 1945. He was a gunner, and served in Canada, France, Holland, Germany and the United Kingdom during World War II. He married Queenie Weaver in July 1946 and to this union they had three children. Tom worked at Hobarts until his retirement in 1986. He passed away on October 4, 2010 and is buried at Zion Cemetery in Amabel Township, Ontario. YATES, Ronald Edmund “Ron” Ron was born on November 27, 1914 in Owen Sound, Ontario, to Edmund and MaryYates. He enlisted in the Army in 1940 in Barrie, Ontario and was discharged in 1950 after serving in World War II and the Korean War. After discharge, he owned his own logging business. He married Laura Grant in 1964. After closing his logging business, he worked as a laborer at different jobs. He retired in 1966 due to ill health. Ron passed away on May 13, 1979. He is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Owen Sound, Ontario. Ron had no children.
