Military Service Recognition Book Volume VII 486 ONTARIO COMMAND WYONCH, John Silvanus John was born on November 25, 1906 in Lion’s Head, Ontario. He worked on the family farm as a fisherman prior to enlisting. He enlisted in the Army with the Grey and Simcoe Foresters on June 21, 1940 during World War II overseas in the United Kingdom with the Canadian Armored Corp. He saw combat as a Tank Operator and was discharged on December 1, 1945. After John’s discharge he worked as a Barber. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, Defence Medal, and War Medal 1939-1945. John passed away in 1973. YATES, George Maxwell George was born to Edmond and Mary Yates in October 1924 in Owen Sound, Ontario. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1944 and served in Canada during World War II. He was discharged in 1945. George married Ruth Lynn in October 1948 and to this union there were five children. He worked at Bondi’s and Hobarts until his retirement in 1989. George passed away in 1992 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Owen Sound. YATES, Clifford Roy “Cliff” Cliff was born on February 8, 1918 in Owen Sound, Ontario, to Edmund and Mary Yates. Cliff enlisted in the Army in 1940 duringWorldWar II and served as a guard at Niagara on the Lake, guarding the power plant. He married Orma Farrow in April 1947 and they had one daughter. He worked as a laborer at various jobs and retired about 1968. Cliff passed away in 1982 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, in Owen Sound.
