485 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WYLEY, Thomas Thomas was born on June 4, 1897, the son of Edith (Durnford) and Thomas Wyley of Gray Street in Coldwater, Ontario. Thomas enlisted in the Army in Toronto with the 12th Brigade Ammunition Column of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, on April 20, 1916. He was eighteen years old and single when he joined the World War I effort. Gunner Thomas Wyley sailed to England on the SS Cameronia, arriving on September 22, 1916. After training in England, he landed in France on March 18, 1917, where he joined his frontline unit, the 1st Canadian Field Artillery Brigade. On May 8, near Vimy, he was wounded and evacuated to No. 6 Casualty Clearing Station. On May 20, he was reported as having “died of wounds received in action.” Gunner Thomas Wyley is buried at Barlin Communal Cemetery, Pasde-Calais, France, about eleven kilometres south-west of Bethune. WYONCH, James Daniel James was born on March 12, 1918 in Tobermory, Ontario. He enlisted with the Army for World War II on September 3, 1941, serving in Canada. James was a motor mechanic and was discharged due to medical reason on January 8, 1944. Returning home to Tobermory, he operated a Garage. James received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Tobermory Branch 290. James passed away on July 5, 2001. WYONCH, Daniel Alexander Daniel was born on December 3, 1913 in Cape Chin, Ontario. Daniel worked at farming, fishing, and the Frood Nickel Mine prior to volunteering in 1940 but he did not pass the medical test. A re-check of Pulheems resulted in a raise to Gr. 1 suitable for overseas and he officially enlisted on May 13, 1943. He qualified as a Mortar Specialist and served in the Canadian Armoured Corps in the United Kingdom duringWorldWar II. He was discharged on March 30, 1946. He received a Good Conduct Badge, the War Medal 1939-1945 and France and Germany Star. Daniel passed on April 25, 1969.
