533 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WHITE, Ray S. Ray was born in Orillia, Ontario on July 16, 1925. He joined the Canadian Parachute Corps on February 15, 1943 and served in Canada, England, France, Holland and Belgium during World War II. After his discharge on May 6, 1946, he worked as a jeweller. He joined the Ontario Provincial Police and served for 25 years. He was Reeve of Wawa for two terms. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Ray was a very active member of Wawa Branch 429 for over fifty years. He passed away on October 9, 2001. WHITFIELD, Frank Frank was born in Brantford, Ontario on September 17, 1920. After just marrying his sweetheart, Doris Gertrude Young, he enlisted in the Army on August 9, 1940 at the age of nineteen, with the Dufferin/Haldimand Rifles of Canada. After basic training, he was deployed to Scotland and assigned the duty of Motorcycle messenger delivering documents to various commands within the region. While delivering messages, he lost control of his motorcycle. Unfortunately, as a result, doctors had to remove his damaged left leg above the knee. He spent many months in hospital in Scotland recovering from his injuries. He was medically discharged from service on November 23, 1943 and returned to Canada where he was fitted with a prosthetic leg. He and Doris soon moved to the Toronto area where Frank was offered a position at Sunnybrook hospital in the prosthetics department, which of course he accepted. He was a member of Richmond Hill Legion Branch. Frank passed away on July 5, 2014. WHITE, Rodney Clifford Rodney was born in Draper Township, Bracebridge, Ontario on December 22, 1922. He enlisted in the Army in 1941 and served with the 2nd Med. Reg. during World War II. He was wounded in Normandy and then his brother Ivan was wounded losing his sight so the Army transferred Rodney to the St. Dustin Hospital for the war blind in England so that he could be with his brother to help him. He was discharged in 1946 and became a member of The Central Muskoka Legion Branch 161. Rodney passed away on June 24, 2004.
