Military Service Recognition Book 534 ONTARIO COMMAND WHITING, Edward J. Edward was born on June 7, 1922 in Fredrickhouse, Cochrane, Ontario. He joined the Army in the spring of 1940 and trained with the 17th Field Regiment of the Royal Canadian Artillery before being shipped to England in 1941during World War II. He was then shipped to Italy and joined the 5th Armoured Division and fought through Italy, France, Belgium and then to Holland to liberate the Dutch people. Edward returned to Canada with three stars and three medals with bar and clasp in 1945. He resided in Fredrickhouse. Edward passed away on May 1, 2007. WHITING, Frank Frank was born on September 5, 1932 in Fredrickhouse, Cochrane, Ontario. He joined the Army on June 18, 1951 and was discharged on July 13, 1956. He served in the 79 Field Regiment RCA as a gunner. He served in Germany and Continental Europe as a Peacekeeper. After the Army, he returned to Cochrane, met and married his wife Marie and had four children. Frank passed away on June 21, 2012. WHITING, Ernest Ernest was born in Fredrickhouse, Cochrane, Ontario on August 25, 1934. He enlisted on August 28, 1952 and served in Canada and Korea for 3 years. He was discharged in 1955 and re-enlisted on December 17, 1957. This time he served in Canada in Shilo out in Manitoba and Gagetown, New Brunswick for three and a half years. Ernest served with 3 RCHA, 28th Brigade. He was discharged with the Korean and United Nations Medal in April 1961. He married Georgina and had ten children, five boys and five girls. Ernest worked as a tourist outfitter for forty three years in Fredrickhouse.
