521 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND TURNER, George H. George was born in Toronto, Ontario on January 22, 1924. He enlisted in the Army right out of school at age sixteen (he was a big man and lied about his age) on June 19, 1940. He served with the Irish Regiment of Canada in England, Italy and Holland during World War II. He was wounded in the legs and hands in Italy. He was discharged on December 12, 1945. After the war, he worked as a fireman for the CNR, then turned to farming in Grey County near Maxwell, ON where he lived until his death on June 21, 2012. George had been a member of Flesherton Legion Branch 333 for over 50 years. TYMCHYSHYN, Nickolas William Nickolas was born in Smoky Lake, Alberta on November 19, 1915. He enlisted in the Army on May 22, 1942 and served with the Prince Albert Volunteers in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. He was promoted to Corporal in 1943 and reverted back to Private at his own request. He landed in France on July 8, 1944 and was wounded in Belgium in 1945. Nickolas was discharged on July 7, 1945. He was awarded the France and Germany Star, 1939-45 Star, Defense Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the Coronation Medal. Nickolas passed away on July 12, 1974. TURNER, Herbert G. Herbert was born in Birmingham, England on December 8, 1895. He served with the 8th Army Brigade from May 1917 to April 1919 in France and Russia during World War I. After WWI, he was in the merchant marine and jumped ship in Canada. He lived in Toronto after the war and enlisted soon after Canada declared war in World War II on September 5, 1940. Herbert served as an instructor in Brantford with 24 Med. Battery RCA. He was discharged on June 16, 1941 and worked in Toronto until retirement. He was a member of the Rexdale Legion Branch. Herbert passed away on July 24, 1977.
