Military Service Recognition Book 520 ONTARIO COMMAND TOURANGEAU, Bert E. Bert was born on March 12, 1926 in Arnprior, Ontario. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in May 1944 and served on HMCS Wetaskiwin doing Submarine detection and Convoy Escort in the North Atlantic on the Triangle Run during World War II. On leaving the RCN in Feb 1946, he was employed with Ontario Hydro for five years. He was then employed with M. Sullivan and Son Ltd. until retirement in 1991. Bert has been a member of Branch 174 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 68 years. TRUCHON, Martin Martin was born in Matane, Quebec on August 9, 1963. He served with the Admin – Tri Service at CFB Calgary, BFC Valcartier, CFB Kingston, Ramstein Germany, Brussels Belgium, CFB Comox, CFB Esquimalt, and HMCS Protector. He served in Cyprus in 1984, Golan Heights in 2000, HMCS Protector Gulf tour in 2008, Kandahar in 2009 and 2011, and Kabul 2013. He is the recipient of the CD2, SWASM Southwest Asia Service Medal, UNDOF Golan Heights, UN Forces Cyprus, SSM Special Service Medal, OSM – SWA Operational Service Medal – Southwest Asia. TOVEY, Arthur J. “Art” Art was born in Perth, Ontario on July 14, 1920. He enlisted in the Army on June 24, 1940. He served with the 11th Hussars, SCABHQ, Maj. Gen. Bert Hoffmeister’s “Mighty Maroon Machine”, 5 CDN Armoured Division as a track & wheel driver and Gunner. One time in Italy, in a staging area the General called him out and said “Soldier are you married?” Art answered “yes sir”, “any children” asked the General, “no sir” answered Art. “If you don’t quit sitting on the horn of your saddle “bike” you will never have any”. Art was discharged on September 18, 1945. He worked for IBM until his retirement in 1982. He had one son, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Art has been a Life Member of Earlscourt Legion Branch 65 and was the 1st Vice-President.
