493 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND SHAW, Charles Alexander W. “Alex” Alex was born in Kleinburg, Ontario on April 30, 1923. He enlisted in the Army on June 1, 1943 and served with the Canadian Grenadier Guards in France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany during World War II. Alex was discharged on January 29, 1946. He was a Life Member of MacKenzie Legion Branch 414 for over fifty years and served as Past President for many years. Alex passed away on March 3, 1999. SHEEHEY, Cyril Jones Cyril was born in Township of Somerville, former County of Victoria, now City of Kawartha Lakes, Burnt River, Ontario on August 6, 1921. He enlisted in the Army on September 16, 1942 and served in England, France, Belgium and Holland during World War II. Cyril was a Private with the 19th Field Regiment. He served with the Irish Regiment of Canada, Motor Transportation, General Service. He reported to Camp Borden in 1942 and left Halifax for overseas on June 23, 1944. After the war ended, he volunteered to remain in Holland for several months to assist with bringing in food for the Dutch people. He returned home to Burnt River from Holland on February 7, 1946 and was discharged on March 20, 1946. He was awarded four medals. Cyril married Joyce Graham Lamb on February 17, 1951 and had five children, Ken, Karen, Jake, Blaine and Brian. He moved to Little Britain, Ontario in July 1953 where he farmed, raised his family and continued working in General Motors until he retired in 1968. He remained on the farm until his death by cancer on September 28, 1995. SHAW, Earl Franklin “Frank” Frank was born in Kleinburg, Ontario on June 12, 1925. He enlisted in the Army in August 1944 and served with the 1st C.A.B. w/s R.C.E.M.E., C.A.D., C.M.E. in Italy and Germany during World War II. Frank was discharged on May 16, 1946. He was a member of MacKenzie Legion Branch 414 for over fifty years. Frank passed away on February 2, 2008.
