Military Service Recognition Book 492 ONTARIO COMMAND SCOTT, William Beverly William was born in Toronto on July 7, 1917. He enlisted in the Army and joined the Royal Canadian Army Signal Corps on October 4, 1942 and served in Europe as Captain during World War II. He was wounded in an accidental bombing by the RAF sometime during the first few weeks after D-Day, but he returned to his unit and served through the end of hostilities and the first several months of occupation. He was discharged on January 11, 1945. After returning to Canada he studied for and obtained a Doctorate of Science in Ichthyology (study of fish) with a minor in Herpetology (study of amphibians). He was Curator of Ichthyology at the Royal Ontario Museum, later cross-appointed in the Zoology Department of the University of Toronto, and later director of the Huntsman Marine Science Centre in St. Andrews, NB. His publications include “The Freshwater Fishes of Canada” coauthored with his beloved friend and colleague Edwin J. Crossman and “Atlantic Fishes of Canada” coauthored with his wife Mildred Grace Scott (Fairfield) who grew up on a farm near Fenelon Falls, Ontario. He was a teacher, mentor and inspiration for a large number of this generation’s environmental scientists. William passed away on August 18, 2014. SECKINGTON, Blair Ronald Blair was born in Weston, Ontario on December 10, 1953. He joined the Reserves in the summer of 1970 Youth Program and stayed until university started the following year. He had served in air cadets for several years and applied and was accepted at RMC but pursued engineering through University of Toronto. He served with the Governor General’s Horse Guards. The experience in discipline, weapons training and times at Camp Petawawa and Downsview will be one of life’s memorable times. He was discharged in June 1971. SEAR, Robert G. Robert was born in Sussex, New Brunswick on April 2, 1932. He enlisted in the Army and joined the 8th Canadian Hussars on May 28, 1951 and served in Egypt (UNEF) and Cyprus (UNFICYP) during Peacetime. He was discharged on November 12, 1980. Robert has been a member of Lions Head Legion Branch 202.
