Military Service Recognition Book 490 ONTARIO COMMAND SCHNEIDER, Percy E. Percy was born in Ellice Township, Perth County, Ontario on August 11, 1913. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in the fall of 1939 and served with the 426 Thunderbird Squadron in Canada and England during World War II. During his time in the Air Force, he was a member of the boxing team where he “knocked the heck out of the Army and the Navy”. He was discharged on September 7, 1945. Percy had a lengthy and successful business career after the war. He owned and operated Schneider Farm Equipment in Brunner, Ontario, was district manager for 27 years with the Patz Company of Pound, Wisconsin, and was distributor of Walker Lawn Mowers of Fort Collins, Colorado. He was a member of Milverton Legion Branch 565 for 52 years. Percy passed away on April 20, 2000. SCOTT, George Maurice George was born in Flamborough Center on February 8, 1895. He enlisted in the Army on January 27, 1916. He served with the “Mad 4th” 4th Canadian Battalion C. Co. 10th Platoon and 129 Battalion Section 1, 10th Platoon in England and France on the front lines of Somme and Calais during World War I. George was wounded in Calais on September 2, 1918, he received a gunshot wound to the right foot (ankle). The only story he would tell was how he was wounded. He was diving back into the fox hole while under fire. On his way in, he was severely cut on the barbed wire. After fire seemed to have cooled down for the night, he was told to go to the first aid to get the cuts looked after, and any “shots” he might need. Fire was not over and he was shot through the ankle. He was then assisted to the medical tent by two of the enemy who were also headed to the tent with one of their wounded. He received two medals and the decoration pin for “Service at the Front.” George was discharged on February 5, 1919. He passed away on January 9, 1970. SCOBIE, McGregor Alexander McGregor was born in Glasgow Station, Ontario on June 3, 1925, the eldest son to John and Margaret. He enlisted in the Army on April 10, 1942 and served in Canada, England and France during World War II. He was an underage volunteer in the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders and trained in Sussex, New Brunswick sailing from Halifax for England and Scotland. On D-Day, he landed on Juno Beach. While on a night patrol, on June 15, he was wounded. When evacuated to England they discovered he had gas gangrene in his leg wounds. After many months of treatment in hospital, he returned to Halifax and Ottawa where he was medically discharged. He met the love of his life, Lillian and married in July 1946. They had been married for almost 68 years when Lillian died in 2014. They have two daughters, five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. McGregor retired in 1985 as a Technical Services Supervisor at the Emergency Preparedness College in Arnprior. He has been a Life Member of the Arnprior Legion Branch 174 for over 66 years. He was awarded the Volunteer Service Medal, In the Line of Duty Medal, Normandy Campaign, France and Germany Star, 1939-45 Star, Defence Medal and War Medal.
