497 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WESTERN, Jack Jack was born on July 20, 1923 in Bradford, Yorkshire, England. He trained in Great Britain and flew operationally with the 153 Squadron RAF out of Scampton. He served in Europe with Bomber Command RAF and rear gunner in Lancasters after enlisting on June 15, 1942. His medals include the Regular WWII + French and German Star, Polish Bronze Cross with swords, French Citation of Merit, Canada 125th Medal, Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal, Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, Queen’s Lapel Pin and Bomber Command Clasp. He served with the British police from 1947 to 1953, with the Canada police from 1953 to 1967 being PC to the Chief of Police and with the OPP for 5 years as a civilian after losing a leg. He also served in provincial courts from court officer in London to court admin in Lambton County, clerk of family court from 1967 to 1988 and Justice of the Peace in the province of Ontario from 1968 to 1995. He was pastor at Christian Church Church of Christ T/O. He was the founder of Bluewater Weddings. He was also part of the Bomber Command Association of Canada, War Veterans & Friends Club and founding member of the 1960 Canadian Section International Police Association. He is a past member of the RCAF Association, the Sarnia Legion Branch 62, and was past director of OPSEU & CSAO. WESTLAKE, Arthur F. Arthur was born on August 21, 1924 in Lloydtown, ON. He enlisted in the Air Force on June 25, 1943 and served during World War II as a Leading Aircraftman in Centralia, ON and Debert, NS. He received the Palm Leaf – MSM award and was discharged on October 17, 1945. After the war, he worked at Sangamo Electric in Newmarket, Toronto. He was married on January 6, 1946 and had three children. He was president of the Legion Branch 426 and was a long-time poppy chairman. He was active as a Life Member of the Legion Branch 426 until his passing on June 30, 2003. WESTGARTH, Bruce W. Bruce was born on September 9, 1924 in Udora, ON. He served with the Royal Regiment of Canada from 1941 to 1942, with the 17 Duke of York, R.C.H. 7 RECCE from 1942 to 1946 and with the Royal Canadian Dragoons RCASC from 1947 to 1950. He served in Canada, England and Europe during World War II, during Peacetime and as a Reservist. He was a Gunner Radio Op in an armoured car. He lost three cars put out of action by anti-tank guns. He was wounded once in the last car. He was a tank driver with RCD for two years then re-mustered to cook. He retired as Warrant Officer Food Service in 1971. He has been a member of the Pembroke Legion Branch 72 for 10 years.
