489 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WALKER, Walter P. Walter was born on May 24, 1920 in Borden, SK. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on November 26, 1941 and graduated as LAC. He served during World War II in Canada, Alaska and England. He spent 14 months on Annette Island, Alaska with the 118F Squadron. He then remustered to air gunner in 1943. After completion of a gunner course, he was transferred to Lancaster bomber on command 433 Squadron 6th group at Skipton-On-Swalke, England. While overseas, he completed 14 operations as a rear gunner. He was discharged on June 17, 1945. WALTON, Douglas G. Douglas was born on June 8, 1923 in Newcastle, ON. He joined the Canadian Army in April of 1942 and landed in England on October 7, 1942. He then joined the 7th Medium Regiment, 45th Battery Canadian Artillery in January of 1943. He landed in France in July of 1944. He saw action during World War II in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He returned to Canada on November 29, 1945 and was discharged on January 25, 1946. He was the recipient of the 1939 – 1945 Star, France and Germany, the Defence Medal, Victory Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. He joined The Royal Canadian Legion in Bowmanville, Ontario in February of 1946. Doug, with a committee in the early 1960’s, raised money to have a cenotaph erected in Newcastle, ON for the fallen soldiers. He also worked in General Motors in Oshawa and when he retired, he was a Branch 178 president from 1980 to 1984. He was a member of the Bowmanville Legion Branch 178 for 56 years. He had a wife, Marilyn, and they had four sons: Terry, Tim, George and Mike. He has a street in Newcastle down by the Port of Newcastle named after him. It is called Doug Walton Lane. He passed away on March 24, 2002. WALLACE, Andrew W. W. Andrew was born on November 10, 1968 in York, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on October 26, 1988 and joined the RCEME Corps. He served two tours in Afghanistan and also served during peacetime in Canada, the Middle East and the Balkans.
