483 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND TOMPSON, Walter Walter was born on March 11, 1921 in Toronto, ON. He enlisted in the Air Force in June of 1939 and served in England, Canada and India during World War II. Half of Walter’s regiment was sent to Burma and half to Ceylon. They did reconnaissance over the Indian Ocean. The boys who went to Burma did not come back. Walter came back and he decided to go back to school and went to the University of Toronto. He got his degree in physical and health education and went on to a master’s degree. He taught for the Toronto Board of Education until he retired in 1978. Walter always loved the North and they spent their summers there. They moved north a few years ago and Walter spent many happy hours fishing with his brother-in-law Lawrence Behnke. He now resides at Algoma Manor and is 93 years old. TOWNE, Gerry J. P. Gerry was born on July 16, 1921 in New Liskeard, Ontario. He enlisted in the Navy on July 4, 1942 with the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve (Convoy Duty). He served in Canada and in the Atlantic as a Leading Stores Assistant until his discharge on January 4, 1945. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Gerry was a member of the Legion Branch 85 for 30 years before he passed away on March 1, 1986. TOULOUSE, Robert J. Robert was born on December 31, 1946 in St. André du Lac St. Jean, QC. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1966 and served as a Master Warrant Officer with the 19 Wing Comox, Search and Rescue. He was discharged in 1996 and he was awarded the Canada Decoration (CD). Robert passed away on August 5, 2005.
