Military Service Recognition Book 482 ONTARIO COMMAND THORNE, Lennard E. Lennard was born on March 13, 1940 in Hamilton, ON. He enlisted in the Navy in January of 1961 and served onboard HMCS Shearwater, HMCS Annapolis and HMCS Iroquois. He worked on the early trials of the Sea King helicopter and sailed in the north and south Atlantic and the Baltic and Mediterranean seas. He is a black belt in Judo and he taught the military personnel and their dependants Judo and self-defence. He received the Canadian Armed Forces Decoration in January of 1973. After his release in November of 1973, he operated a masonry construction company. Lennard has been a member of the Legion Branch 34 for 20 years. TOMLIN, William Glen Glen was born on October 13, 1923 in Clinton, ON. At the age of 17, he joined the militia, 100th Battery in Listowel, ON and then enlisted in the Army on January6, 1943 with the Infantry then transferred to the Artillery and later back to the Infantry. He served as a Private in the 3rd Canadian Division, along with the 9th Highland Brigade in England, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Both of Glen’s brothers, Ted and Jack, served in Italy and another brother George (Oscar) served in Ottawa. Unfortunately, Ted was killed in Italy. Glen was awarded the 1939 – 1945 Star, France and Germany Star, five Canadian Volunteer Service Medals and Clasp, Defence of Britain and Victory Medals. He returned to Canada, married and raised five children in Harriston, Ontario. He has been a member of the Harriston Legion Branch 296 for 10 years. THRONES, Torleif N. Torleif was born on October 26, 1923 in Vanderhoof, British Columbia. He enlisted in the Army on April 1, 1943 and served with the Hastings and Prince Edward Island 1st Division and the Perth Regiment. He served in Italy and in Germany as a Private during World War II until his discharge on March 4, 1946. He received the Kings Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the Germany Star and the Italy Star. Torleif has been a member of the Legion Branch 85 for 46 years.
